Saroj Kumar Jha Appointed as Senior Director in World Bank.
Saroj Kumar has been appointed Senior Director for the Fragility, Conflict and Violence Group in the world Bank. It is a key Position in the world Bank to provide strategic leadership to address the challenge of fragility , conflict and violence.
Saroj Kumar Jha:-
He is the alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.
Prior to this appointment he was working as world Bank’s Regional Director for Central Asia based in Almaty since February 2012.
He also had worked as the world Bank’s Global Manager for Disaster Risk Management Practice.
Archana Ramasundram becomes 1st Woman DG of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
Senior IPS officer Archana Ramasundram was appointed as the DG Director General of SSB Sashastra Seema Bal. With this, she became first woman Police Officer to lead a Central Police Force that’s Guards the country’s International borders. She will be in Office till the date of her super annulation 30 September 2016 . Prior to this appointment , she was the Director of New Delhi based National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). She is 1980-batch IPS Officer of Tamil Nadu Cadre.
Reserve Bank of India Rates Unchanged in 6th bi-monthly monetary policy review
The RBI Reserve Bank of India in its sixth bi-monthly monetary policy review for years 2016 has maintained status quo in key policy interest rate.
The key policy interest rates were kept unchanged on the basis of an assessment of the current and evolving macroeconomic situation in the country . RBI Reserve Bank of India has kept its stance on the credit policy accommodative.
- Repo Rate (Liquidity adjustment facility) : Unchanged at 6.75%
- Reserve Repo Rate (Liquidity adjustment facility):- Unchanged at 5.75%.
- Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) of scheduled Banks: Unchanged at 4.0 % of net demand and time liability (NDTL).
World Health Organization (WHO) Declares Zika Virus outbreak as International Emergency.
The WHO World Health Organization has declared an International public health emergency over the explosive spread of the mosquito-borne Zika Virus.
It was announced after WHO’S emergency meeting of independent experts headed by WHO Director- General Margaret Chan. The meeting was convened in Geneva, Switzerland to assess the outbreak of the virus which is linked to birth defects in the Americas.
About Zika Virus:-
Zika virus is a mosquito-borne virus transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
It is close cousin of other vector-borne diseases like Dengue, yellow fever etc.
The virus was first identified in 1947 in Uganda and its name has been derived from Zika Forest.
K Durga Prasad appointed as DG Director General of CRPF Force.
Union Government has appointed senior IPS officer K Durga Parsad has Director General Of Central Reserve Police Force CRPF . Decision in this regard was taken by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
K Durga Parsad:-
He is IPS officer of 1981 batch from Andhra Pradesh cadre.
Prior to this appointment he was serving as special Director General of the CRPF.
Earlier he had served as Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG) which is nodal agency responsible to provide security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and their family members.
Japan to set up plant for US-2 amphibious Aircraft in India
Japan’s Shin Maywa Industries is planning to set up manufacturing plant of US-2 amphibious aircraft in India under ‘Make In India’ initiative to cater to international demands. The move comes as Indian Navy plans to procure 6 such aircrafts between 2017 and 2022 by signing a government to government deal i.e initial purchase being off the sheif.
US-2 amphibious Aircraft:-
It has long range civilian and military applications and can land on choppy waters . Indian Navy is seeking to purchase it in order to monitor India’s vast coastline , islands and for use is disaster relief.
